Federal judge T.S. Ellis III died aged 85 after a long illness. Known for his sharp legal reasoning and acerbic wit, Ellis presided over notable trials, including those of Paul Manafort and William "Dollar Bill" Jefferson. He commanded respect for his extensive legal career since his appointment by President Ronald Reagan in 1987. Throughout his career he was known for his sophistic comments and careful adjudication of matters that crossed his docket.
