💨 Abstract
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services proposed regulations to effectively ban gender-affirming care for minors, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries. These proposals aim to cut federal Medicaid and Medicare funding from hospitals providing such care, impacting nearly two dozen states where these treatments are legal and funded by Medicaid. The rules, not yet final, will undergo a lengthy process and likely face legal challenges.
