💨 Abstract
An attack in Syria, blamed on the Islamic State, resulted in the deaths of two Iowa National Guard members: Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar and Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard. Three other Guard members were wounded. The incident occurred during a meeting between U.S. and Syrian security officials near Palmyra. The assailant, a Syrian security guard with suspected IS ties, was killed. The attack is under investigation, and President Trump has promised retaliation.
