💨 Abstract

Consumer confidence in the U.S. has hit a near-historic low in May 2025, with the University of Michigan's Consumer Sentiment Index dropping to 50.8, mainly due to Trump's tariffs. This marks a 2.7% decline from April and the second-lowest level since records began in 1952. Despite some positive signs in trade relations, consumers remain pessimistic, fearing a recession and increased inflation.
