💨 Abstract
A new study reveals that the weakening of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is significantly increasing coastal flooding along the U.S. Northeast. Between 2005 and 2022, up to 50% of flooding events were driven by a weaker AMOC, contributing to up to eight days of annual flooding. Scientists warn that the AMOC could collapse within decades, leading to catastrophic global consequences, including severe sea-level rise.
