💨 Abstract
The U.S. Department of Justice urged a federal appeals court to overturn a judge's nationwide block on President Donald Trump's attempt to end birthright citizenship. The hearing, before a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Seattle, marked the first time an intermediate court considered the policy's constitutionality. The administration argued that the 14th Amendment sets a minimum standard for birthright citizenship, not a maximum.
