💨 Abstract
During a cabinet meeting, President Donald Trump suggested he could take control of New York City if its mayor election results in a candidate Trump deems "communist." This remark targeted Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist running for mayor. Trump's comments imply a threat to expand presidential power and could discourage New York voters. However, Elizabeth Goitein from the Brennan Center for Justice says the president lacks constitutional authority to govern a city.
