💨 Abstract

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell indicated that interest rates would have been lowered this year if not for President Trump's policies. Powell, speaking at a forum in Portugal, noted that the Fed is waiting to see the impact of Trump's tariffs before considering rate cuts. Trump has repeatedly criticized Powell for not lowering rates, calling him names. Some Fed officials, including Michelle Bowman and Christopher Waller, have suggested considering rate cuts, but a July cut seems unlikely.
