💨 Abstract
On July 30, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed new 50% tariffs on semi-finished copper imports, including tubes, wires, and sheets, aiming to boost the domestic copper industry. The tariffs, effective August 1, exempt copper products already subject to auto tariffs. Trump also mandated that 25% of high-quality U.S.-made copper scrap and materials remain in the country, with increases yearly.
