💨 Abstract
An Afro-Uruguayan immigrant, Juan Pedro Martínez Piedraita, and his Argentine wife, Paola Arismendi, were separated after nearly 20 years together. Despite Martínez fulfilling legal requirements and facing no risk of repeat offenses, Argentina's stricter immigration policies under President Javier Milei led to his deportation due to a past, minor conviction. The ruling, deemed unequal by legal experts and opponents, left Martínez's family devastated and struggling financially.
