💨 Abstract

The U.S. government rejects comparisons of El Salvador's legislative process, which enables President Nayib Bukele's potential indefinite re-elecitons, to dictatorial regimes. The Salvadoran Assembly, dominated by Bukele's party, voted to allow him unlimited reelections and extended the presidential term. Although criticized by regional NGOs, the U.S. calls the process "democratically elected" and "constitutionally solid."
