💨 Abstract
On August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing over 70,000 instantly. Three days later, a second bomb on Nagasaki killed 40,000 more. These attacks ended World War II but sparked global controversy. President Truman authorized the bombings to avoid a costly invasion and end the war swiftly.
