💨 Abstract

In Germany, the head of the Federal Agency for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief has expressed concern about the need for a major overhaul of the nation's aging bunker network due to fears of a potential war in Europe. Only 5% of Germany's 83 million people can seek shelter in the 580 existing, mostly non-operational bunkers. The agency plans to create one million shelter spaces by upgrading public buildings and expanding notification systems.
