💨 Abstract
In Russia, the Kremlin is intensifying efforts to control the internet, making it frustrating and dangerous for users. Authorities have adopted strict laws, banned non-compliant websites and platforms, and perfected technologies to monitor and manipulate online traffic. While VPNs can circumvent restrictions, they are often blocked. This summer saw widespread shutdowns of cellphone internet and a new law punishing users for searching illicit content.
