Tim Mayer, a former Formula 1 race steward, is running for presidency of the FIA, accusing incumbent Mohammed Ben Sulayem of failing to deliver on promised reforms. Mayer's campaign focuses on "restoring democracy" within the FIA and has garnered support amidst centralization of power and internal resignations. Mayer, son of McLaren co-founder Teddy Mayer, has a background in U.S. racing.
