💨 Abstract
The NHL's emergency backup goaltender (EBUG) program is changing. Starting in the 2026-27 season, each team must employ a full-time, traveling replacement goaltender. This shift, driven by the increasing physical demands on goalies, means the rare, spontaneous moments where unexpected players take the ice will become less common.
