💨 Abstract
In July 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose heavy tariffs on Brazil, despite Brazil's commercial surplus with the U.S. Trump justified this by stating he has the power to do so and that it could encourage manufacturing in the U.S. and create jobs. Brazil, which has not had a commercial deficit with the U.S. in 18 years, responded that it would reciprocate such tariffs and consider taking the matter to the World Trade Organization.
