Wilyer Abreu hit two home runs and drove in three runs, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 6-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs. Alex Bregman also homered as Boston avoided a series sweep. Garrett Crochet pitched effectively for six innings. The Red Sox improved to 12-3 in July, while the Cubs had won five of six games prior. Chicago's Cade Horton had a strong outing but was let down by the offense.
