💨 Abstract
Howard University and Google are collaborating on "Project Elevate Black Voices" to improve AI speech recognition for African American English. The project collected 600 hours of voice data from various regions to enhance technology accuracy. Initially, the data will be shared with historically Black colleges for research. Eventually, it may be licensed to companies aligning with Howard's values of inclusivity and empowerment, ensuring African Americans aren't left behind in tech advancements.
