💨 Abstract
A rare juvenile wood stork, typically found in Gulf Coast states and Central/South America, was spotted in Wisconsin. The bird, sighted in the Mud Lake Wildlife Area, is likely a late summer explorer that got lost. This is the second rare bird sighting in Wisconsin in recent years, following a roseate spoonbill in 2023. Climate change and habitat loss are driving birds north.
