Severe thunderstorms swept through the DC area, causing 2 deaths and leaving thousands without power due to downed power lines and trees. The Washington Mystics started their WNBA season with a 94-90 win over the Atlanta Dream. Brittney Sykes led the Mystics with 22 points, and rookie Sonia Citron added 19. Atlanta's Allisha Gray scored 25 points. The Mystics' debut coach Sydney Johnson secured a win.
