💨 Abstract
The National Weather Service (NWS) is urgently seeking to fill 155 critical positions across the country through voluntary reassignments of qualified NOAA employees, as the agency faces significant staffing shortages ahead of the June 1 hurricane season. Over 560 departures, including early retirements and firings, have left the NWS depleted. Offices in Houston and Goodland, Kansas, are severely affected, with one lacking management staff and the other operating on reduced hours.
