💨 Abstract
A new map reveals increased flash flooding in the D.C. region, particularly in areas where it was previously rare, such as Silver Spring, Bloomingdale, and the Pentagon. The map, compiled by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, uses data from FEMA and Fathom U.S. to highlight risks to transportation networks, identifying 39% of road and highway miles at risk. This is significantly higher than the 14% identified using FEMA data alone.
