💨 Abstract
On May 21, 2025, Iran executed an individual who attacked the Azerbaijan Embassy in Tehran in 2023, killing the security chief and injuring two others. Iran initially attributed the incident to a personal dispute, while Azerbaijan labeled it a "terrorist attack" and accused Iran of supporting Islamists. Diplomatic tensions escalated, leading to reciprocal expulsions of diplomats and the closure and later reopening of the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran.
