💨 Abstract
More than 20,000 residents are being evacuated from Cologne’s city center to defuse three unexploded U.S. WWII bombs found during road construction. The evacuation area includes homes, hotels, schools, museums, and transportation hubs. The operation is Cologne’s largest since 1945, reflecting the ongoing risk of unexploded ordnance found in Germany even 80 years after the war.
