💨 Abstract
Jorge Glas, Ecuador's former vice president, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for misusing earthquake reconstruction funds. He was accused of diverting money to "useless" projects, disregarding the law and disrespecting victims. Glas, already imprisoned for other corruption cases, was controversially detained in Mexico's embassy in Quito. The raid sparked international criticism, as diplomatic premises are considered inviolable under international law.
