💨 Abstract
Spain rejected a NATO proposal for member countries to spend 5% of their GDP on defense. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, in a letter to NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, said Spain cannot commit to a specific spending target. Many U.S. allies, including Sweden and the Netherlands, aim to meet the new target, which was pushed by U.S. President Trump. The announcement is expected at the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague.
