💨 Abstract
Togolese voters participated in municipal elections seen as a critical test for President Faure Gnassingbé. Polling stations were mostly empty in the capital, Lomé, amid voter apathy and fear stemming from recent violent protests and a lackluster election system. The protests followed constitutional changes that could allow Gnassingbé to remain in power indefinitely. Civil society groups called for a boycott, citing safety concerns and perceived electoral fraud.
