💨 Abstract

In Tapachula, Mexico, roughly 300 migrants began moving north, frustrated by extended waiting times for legal status and asylum. This migration is smaller than past caravans, with migrants aiming for central Mexico rather than the U.S. Recent strategies by the Mexican government have detained migrants in the south. A prominent activist, Luis García Villagrán, was arrested on human trafficking charges, which activist and Catholic priest Heyman Vázquez called "unjust".
