💨 Abstract

The Congolese government rejected Kenya's appointment of a consul general to Goma, citing a violation of international law. Kenya had not consulted Kinshasa before the move. Goma has been controlled by the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group since January, exacerbated by this diplomatic tension. The conflict involves multiple regional players with ongoing attempts at mediation, causing distrust and complications. The diplomatic move could further complicate peace efforts and Kinshasa's relations with Kenya.
