💨 Abstract
Gang members in two Guatemalan prisons held 11 guards hostage, demanding the transfer of their leaders to different facilities. The guards were released overnight. Deputy Security Minister José Portillo confirmed their release but didn't detail any concessions made. Riots erupted on Tuesday, with a guard and inmate injured. Videos showed the guards blindfolded and bound. The gangs sought the return of their leaders to previous prisons, a demand previously denied by Guatemala's interior minister.
