💨 Abstract

A riot at Tuxpan prison in Veracruz, Mexico, resulted in seven deaths and 11 injuries. Authorities have since restored order, extinguished fires, and are providing medical care to the wounded. Videos suggest the riot began as a rebellion against the Grupo Sombra criminal organization, which was reportedly extorting inmates and their families. The prison was overcrowded, holding 778 inmates despite a capacity of 735.
