💨 Abstract
Prison staff in England and Wales are facing unprecedented levels of violence. In 2024, 10,605 assaults were recorded, the highest in a decade. The Chairman of the Prison Officers’ Association (POA) warns that an officer's murder is inevitable without radical changes, like introducing 'supermax' facilities. He blames the increase in violence on contraband and drones. The Ministry of Justice is taking steps to enhance security and tackle organized crime.
