A 20-year-old man, Mazyar Azarbonyad, received a 14-month detention for causing a severe crash on the A1 near Newcastle while driving at high speed without a license or insurance. The accident, which occurred after a first date, injured seven police officers. Mazyar, who fled Iran at 14, had only paid for three driving lessons and was driving a BMW SUV on finance.
