💨 Abstract
The UK faces the challenge of disposing nuclear waste, which remains toxic for centuries. Initial ideas, like space disposal or distant storage, were deemed impractical. The current solution is deep geological disposal, burying waste 200-1,000 meters underground in stable rock. The UK is considering three sites, with the process expected to start in the 2050s and finish around 2225.
