💨 Abstract
Lin Lawler, a 70-year-old woman, faces financial ruin after receiving a £24,010 energy bill for a holiday rental property in Norfolk, which she uses only for a fraction of the year. Despite numerous complaints, energy supplier SmartestEnergy insists she pays or face power being cut off. An inspection revealed a faulty meter but the company still demands the full amount, cancelled her contract and installed a pre-payment meter. Her local MP is supporting her.
