💨 Abstract

Barry Newman, a builder, was hired to refurbish a Nottingham home. On November 22, 2022, a portable space heater he installed in the cellar exploded, destroying the ground floor. Newman was injured and left the scene. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that he used faulty equipment and had not conducted a risk assessment. At Nottingham Magistrates' Court, Newman admitted to breaching safety regulations.
