💨 Abstract
Every summer, millions of flying ants, known as alates, take to the skies to mate and establish new colonies, a phenomenon dubbed "Flying Ant Day." This occurs over several weeks, with urban areas experiencing it sooner due to the 'heat island' effect. Despite being a nuisance, flying ants play a crucial role in the ecosystem by recycling nutrients and serving as a food source for birds.
