💨 Abstract
In response to a record-high backlog, an independent review proposes a new court in England and Wales called the Crown Court Bench Division (CCBD). This court, staffed by two magistrates and a judge, would handle "either way" offenses (such as sexual assault, incest, and stalking) with sentences of three years or less without a jury. The aim is to reduce delays.
