💨 Abstract

On Wednesday, a powerful 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, triggering massive tsunami waves across the Pacific Ocean, reaching as high as four meters in some areas. Tsunamis are caused by large-scale disturbances on the seabed, most commonly earthquakes. Prof. David Tappin explained that tectonic plate movements lead to vertical shifts in the seabed and sea surface, generating tsunamis.
