šŸ’Ø Abstract

In South Africa, scientists are injecting radioactive material into rhino horns to deter poachers and track illegal trade. The Rhisotope Project, which began with a successful pilot phase in June 2024, involves sedating rhinos and inserting radioisotopes into their horns. This makes the horns traceable and undesirable due to detectors at ports and airports. The initiative is seen as a potential "holy grail" for saving rhinos, as poaching is a significant threat.
