💨 Abstract
Dame Stella Rimington, the first female director general of MI5, died at 90. She led MI5 from 1992 to 1996. In 1996 Rimington became the first MI5 chief to have their name and photograph published, boosting transparency within the British Intelligence services. She inspired the character of “M” in the James Bond films, portrayed by Dame Judi Dench.
