💨 Abstract
The author describes their experience with colourism within their Somali community, particularly how it affects their running routine. Growing up, they avoided sunshine to maintain a lighter skin tone, even avoiding outdoor activities. Discovering colourism through online experiences helped them reject these prejudices. Now, they enjoy outdoor running and no longer fear the sun or comments from family. The author emphasizes that skin colour should not dictate self-worth or happiness, encouraging others to enjoy sunny weather regardless of prejudices.
