šØ Abstract
Derek Martin, 67, was convicted of murdering his stepdaughter Chloe Bashford, 30, and her husband Josh, 33, in Newhaven in June 2023. Martin admitted killing them but claimed a mental disorder impaired his judgment. The court heard he bludgeoned Chloe with a hammer, stabbed her, then waited for Josh, stabbing and strangling him. Despite helping the couple financially, Martin had stopped taking medication and was depressed.
