💨 Abstract

Catherine Connolly, Ireland’s new president, defied conventions with her unconventional path. Raised by a single father in a large, working-class family, she became a lifelong activist, prioritizing community work over domestic duties. A clinical psychologist and barrister, she entered politics in her 40s, addressing housing shortages. After serving as a councillor and becoming Ireland’s first female Deputy Speaker, she won a historic presidential election with 914,000 votes.
