💨 Abstract
Simon Byrne, at 11, was sexually abused by his boxing coach, Patrick Lowe, over four years. Lowe manipulated Simon and his family, using his position of trust to isolate and abuse the boy. Simon kept silent, fearing repercussions and not wanting to burden his parents. The trauma resurfaced when his son showed interest in boxing, leading to a mental health crisis. In 2021, inspired by news of another abuse case, Simon decided to speak out.
