šØ Abstract
A nurse in India died from complications after recovering from the Nipah virus, which she contracted from infected date sap. The virus, carried by fruit bats, has a high fatality rate (45-70%) and no vaccine or cure. Recent deaths have been reported in India and Bangladesh, but the World Health Organization (WHO) considers the risk of a pandemic low. Nipah outbreaks are geographically limited, and the virus does not easily spread between humans.
