šØ Abstract
Meta will stop end-to-end encrypting Instagram DMs from May 8, allowing it to scan and flag illegal content. This move comes amid pressure to better moderate online content, especially for minors. While Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp will continue to offer encryption, Instagram users will be notified to save any private chats they wish to keep. Ofcom has given major platforms until the end of April to demonstrate steps taken to protect children from harmful content.
