💨 Abstract
The Supreme Court of India directed all states and union territories to designate officers in the Department of Women and Child Development as protection officers to ensure the safety and well-being of domestic violence victims. The court ordered the designation to be completed within six weeks and mandated awareness campaigns about the Domestic Violence Act. Additionally, the court emphasized the availability of legal aid and shelter homes for distressed women, responding to a plea from the NGO We the Women of India highlighting gaps in the infrastructure supporting the act.
