💨 Abstract
The Election Commission (EC) of India has addressed the issue of voter cards with similar numbers. Only a small fraction of cards, about one in four polling stations, had this issue. Verification confirmed that holders of such cards were legitimate voters in different constituencies. The EC asserted that this did not affect any election results. The problem, originating from a 2005 decentralized numbering system, was rectified after a comprehensive search of the electoral database.
